Brooklyn Brewery

Many craft breweries have been popping up around Brooklyn and elsewhere in Kings County in the past few years. But the most popular one of these breweries is the one that has been around the longest. The Brooklyn Brewery has been making craft beer since 1988, and it continues to be a prominent fixture of Brooklyn's Williamsburg neighborhood.

The Brooklyn Brewery is in the northern end of Williamsburg at North 11th Street, right in between Bushwick Inlet Park and McCarren Park. The brewery is open to the public from Thursdays to Sundays, with regular special events held throughout the year. The brewery also has many seasonal and limited-edition beers available.

About the Brewery

The Brooklyn Brewery was formed in 1988 by two beer brewing enthusiasts, Steve Hindy and Tom Potter. The two spent years delivering their beers to various bars around the New York City area. The pair would acquire an old matzo factory building in Williamsburg in 1996 as a new brewery, although a good portion of their brewing efforts also took place at a separate brewery in Utica under contract.

The company has expanded over the years to where there have been plans to move their Utica brewery operation to Staten Island and to continue expanding their Williamsburg headquarters. The Japanese beverage company Kirin even acquired a quarter of the shares in the brewery in 2016. The Brooklyn Brewery also acquired the London Fields Brewery in London in 2017 as part of a venture to produce Brooklyn Brewery products for sale in Europe.

The Brooklyn Brewery logo also remains one of the world's most distinct craft beer logos. It was designed by Milton Glaser, a graphic designer best known for creating the I Love New York and DC Comics logos.

A Strong Philosophy

The Brooklyn Brewery believes that its beers are all about bringing people together. They are about having a lively life and supporting their local communities. The brewery focuses heavily on bringing people together, as the company focuses on word-of-mouth advertising and the support of various nonprofits when promoting itself.
